I Love...

1. The smell of the earth..when it rains… 2. The smell of old books…. 3. The smell of freshly washed clothes from the machine… 4. The pleasant evenings, before the arrival of Spring… 5. A message or a call from an old friend, when I am least expecting it, just to say that they “thought” about me,… 6. Love the look on my partner’s face, when he is amused by something I have done or said but doesn’t want to show it. 7. When I whisper “I love You” in my son’s ears while he is sleeping, and he replies, “I know” 8.When my cousin and I share the nostalgic moments from our growing up years… 9. When a fellow Mother looks up and gives a ‘been there experienced that’ smile in a mall, when my brat is showing off his tantrum throwing skills… 10. Sitting in a Coffee Shop and looking at the people walking in with varied moods and expressions… 11. Getting transported to a different world while listening to some song… 12. Smiling at old photographs… 13. Having my coffee in the quiet hilly sur...

Pinks and Blues...

Few days ago, I was chatting up with a friend who is pregnant with the second child. We were discussing something about baby clothes and accessories, and I voiced out how beautiful the girl clothes look, and also the variety that the stores have for girls….while ranting on that, my friend said, I wish the second one is also a girl. For a nation, which is still ‘boy’ hungry, lot of people wish for a girl child, so this one was not a surprise, but the statement that followed the previous one was unnecessary, she said, “Its difficult to bring up boys, girls are more understanding, caring…blah blah, and my older one will take care of the younger one etc…”, the only thing that I was tempted to ask was, Are you having a baby to have your older one baby sit for it? Nevertheless, I didn’t. I belong to the group of women, who have a ‘boy’. Suddenly, I felt as if I made a grave mistake by having a blue instead of a pink. In the same household, where the pregnant mother is pining for a second gir...

No Regrets - So I say...

While coming back home, a colleague asked me, “Is there something that you regret or you wanna go back and erase in your life?” I said, “No regrets, but, given an opportunity I would like to erase few things” This question dominated my mind for a while, I asked myself, if I was to go back and erase few things, where would I start from? There were too many things to erase, decisions that brought about a 360 degree change in my life. Needless, to say I was misty eyed, was a lil low for sometime, the minute I hit the bed, I burst into tears, I would have cried for about half an hour, and then felt better. Got up, freshened up, and then realized, what’s the point in thinking about stuff that cannot be changed? Why should I waste my present thinking about what could have happened, whatever had to happen has happened, now it can’t be changed, unless there is a miracle – chances of which are bleak. There have been learnings, no doubt about that. The learnings came with a price, nevertheless, ...

Musings!!!

Few days ago, I was changing channels on TV, as usual there were lots of saas-bahu shows, surfing past the regressive shows, I came across the 1994 blockbuster “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”, felt nostalgic, decided to watch it for a while, and re-live the experience of watching it. Madhuri and her 1000 watt smile, It was a typical Barjatya movie, drama, romance, comedy, tragedy and then a happy ending. I remember going to Satyam – a theatre in Delhi’s busy Patel Nagar area with my sister to book about 15 tickets for my entire clan.    On a saturday evening, all of us got ready, my mother and aunts in their printed silks, matching sweaters, pashmina shawls, the Tam Bram trademark bindis and diamond studded nose pins.   My sister, me, and my cousins, were happy to walk behind them, of course, we maintained a distance as well, the whole 4 block could have heard their chattering.    From Karol Bagh it takes about 15-20 minutes to reach Patel Nagar, ...

Beginnings....

While sipping my coffee in the morning…the second cup to be precise, because I need that caffeine dose after I pack off everyone, was going through the newspaper, I get to touch and smell the paper only after 9AM, inspite of the fact, that the newspaper guy throws it on my door at 6.30 in the morning , (he aims it at the door and gets it right everytime, should have been in the Indian cricket team), there was an article about blogging and bloggers, right from the common man to celebrities everybody is into blogging these days, I wondered what was the hype all about? So, after finishing my breakfast – a humble meal of cornflakes, bread and fruits, I am on DIET you see..;). I set off to create my blog account. While there are enough people blogging, tweeting etc.. about politics and global warming..sadly they are just tweeting and blogging about it, without actually taking any steps to do something about it. I decided not to talk or blog about such topics, rather I would use my account a...

Some more days gone by...

Time just seems to be running a marathon these days… There are so many things piled up, and to finish that, I need the most important tool and that is TIME!!!! Ohh God! Come to think of it, there are just few days left for the year END… it’s time for 2010 to exit and 2011 to enter.. Well, like every year, I always look forward to the New Year, wait for the new beginnings, the surprises in store – good or bad, I just take it as it comes. On that note, I can say, that the year has not been too great, but not too bad either, some truths came out of the closet, causing a stir in relationships. That wasn’t pleasant, but, hey that happens, all the time, isn’t it? I happened to join a prestigious institution, and after the initial days of settling down struggle, now am a part of a rocking team, best part is the structured way they run this institution, they are warm, they are kind, the best part – they are deeply grounded in their humble roots. I look forward to my day, after a long ...

Five years and ten months...

That’s my son! He would soon be super six, and it means a lot to him, it’s like winning a virtual monster game. Cliched but true that “Time Flies”. Six years ago, when I got to know that I was pregnant, I went through a roller coaster of emotions, there came a point when I  wanted to abort my pregnancy, but in true filmy style, I realized it was emotionally not possible. Today, I am happy that I let my emotions rule. Not even once have I regretted this decision. He is one of the best things that happened in my life, my flesh and blood. I don’t know how life would have been without him, but now I dread a life without him. Well, bringing up a child is not a child’s play, fellow mothers will agree, but, there is no perfect way also. To each is own, as I have always believed. Looking at him, makes me feel that as a Mother I have done a fairly decent job, Yes, its true that he has his preferences, his moods, and he is very rigid about certain things, it just shows that he is growing up....
